Five Minute Friday: Song

My life has a soundtrack. Younger boys playing, deep voices of older boys, daughter organizing, siblings laughing. It’s all a song.
There is one in particular, John, who seems to live for vocal music.
He has a very sweet voice and uses it liberally. Most of the day, he provides a song via whistling, humming or singing. Hymns, Lord of the Rings songs, or nonsensical notes over and over and over. The latter, I have to ask for a pause. Sometimes the whistling too. I try to be patient. I enjoy it much of the time and I do miss the song when they are all out or I am out and I am alone in the quiet. It is our family song. I like the song of my life.

Psalm 96: 1-6 (ESV)
Worship in the Splendor of Holiness

“1Oh sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples!
4 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
6 Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.”

  1. I think we live by the same soundtrack. Only mine doesn’t have boys and has a lot of whining. It is hard to get even some quiet to think isn’t it? With the soundtrack of our children? And I’m with you. I tell myself, someday I’ll miss this. I’ll miss all of this noise.

  2. Oh yes, this is my soundtrack too (only with just little boys). I always think I just want some peace and quiet, and then when I get it I find it is too quiet. I feel restless and get bored. Still, those moments remind me to appreciate all the noise in the midst of all the noise, so I guess the peace and quiet is still necessary.

    Happy Friday!

  3. Beautiful! The song of the family! I love family! And to consider them a song – yes….that really resonated with me…like synchopy…my heart leapt when I considered the song that filled my house in days gone by, the empty places now that are eerily quiet, and then the roar of joyful song when family returns to visit. Yes, sometimes ear-piercing, but all the more beautiful to behold! Praise the Lord for the song of the family!
    Hugs,
